Teil 3: UNLEASH THE ARCHERS in Kopenhagen, Leipzig, Prag, München, Graz

Was für ein Tag ist heute? Montag? Möglich… ich fange langsam an, das zu vergessen 😉 Es gibt keine Wochentage mehr, nur Städte und Clubs, neue Gesichter, neue Fans. An diesem Punkt setzt die Routine so richtig ein! Im Bus vor einem neuen Club aufwachen, raus in den Wind, Regen, Sonnenschein, wer weiß das schon! Sich orientieren, Essen finden, wo auch immer es sein mag… Duschen, aufwärmen, aufbauen, Sound Check, ungeduldig darauf warten, auf die Bühne zu gehen, während die Menge lauter und unruhiger wird. Und dann, endlich, der „Apex“ [Höhepunkt] der ganzen Sache! Viel zu schnell vergehende 35 Minuten auf der Bühne, mit purem Hochgefühl und Freude 🙂 Dann natürlich wieder runterkommen, trinken, lachen, wieder einpacken (igitt), bis man seinen Kopf wieder abgekämpft aufs Kissen pflanzt und das Ruckeln des Buses einen in den Schlaf wiegt…

Wanted to give a special little shout-out to this piece of shit trailer. I’ve dealt with a lot of trailer packs in my day but this set-up takes the cake. The trailer has to be about 12’x10’x6′ and there honestly isn’t a square foot of space that doesn’t have something in it. It takes a crew of 5 or 6 people upwards of an hour and a half to pack it every night. Legit Tetris. If it just detached from the bus and flew off the cliff one of these nights I honestly wouldn’t be stressed 🙂

Seit dem letzten Eintrag gab es fünf Shows, es war viel los und die Zeit verfliegt so schnell. Es tut mir leid, dass ich keine Zeit hatte, zu schreiben! Ich werde alles mal kurz abreißen, soweit möglich 😉

Kopenhagen war klasse. So ein kleiner, enger Club, so ein fantastisches Publikum! Ich hatte sogar Zeit, mit Scott in der Stadt rumzulaufen und ein paar Sehenswürdigkeiten zu sehen, was auf einer Tour mit so langen Fahrten selten ist. Wir haben unserem Lieblingsgeschäft Fotex einen Besuch abgestattet, was wir noch von den Aufnahmen zu unserem letzten Album in Dänemark kannten. Da gab es immer alles, was wir brauchten, und auch dieses Mal hat es unsere Wünsche befriedigt 😉 Scott hat ungefähr 15 Packungen Gajol-Bonbons (salzige Lakritz-Bonbons) gekauft, weil es sowas in Kanada nicht gibt (hahaha).

Als Nächstes waren wir wieder in Deutschland, im Hellraiser in Leipzig. Der Laden war mit Postern von Bands, die da mal gespielt haben, zugepflastert. Es war, wie durch eine Galerie der Metalgötter zu laufen. AMON AMARTH, UDO, EDGUY, NIGHTWISH, BEHEMOTH… Was für ein Gefühl, auf der gleichen Bühne wie diese Legenden zu spielen! Das Konzert war mal wieder proppenvoll und die Zuschauer waren ausgelassen mit ihren „Heys“ und Fäusten in der Luft. So viele fröhliche Gesichter! Leider wurde unser Meet & Greet am Ende von der Security abgebrochen 🙂 An alle, die es nicht geschafft haben, uns hallo zu sagen: Wir kommen wieder, versprochen!

Dann waren wir in Prag, einer Stadt, in der wir schonmal gespielt hatten, und zwar im gleichen Club namens Nova Chmnelnice. Anders als letztes Jahr war diesmal ausverkauft. Was für ein Unterschied! Ich weiß nicht, ob ihr es schonmal drinnen habt regnen sehen, aber wir schon… Der Raum war so voll, dass die Feuchtigkeit an der Decke und den Rohren dort kondensiert ist und es getropft hat, als hätte sich eine Regenwolke durchs Fenster eingeschlichen. Der arme Manu (Drummer von RHAPSODY OF FIRE) hat alle Bands sein Schlagzeug benutzen lassen und besorgt zugesehen, wie es sich buchstäblich mit Wasser gefüllt hat… Es ist an seinen brandneuen Mapex Kesseln runtergelaufen, als würden sie unterm Wasserfall stehen. Trotz allem war die Show grandios. Die Zuschauer waren total engagiert! Die Energie ist zwischen uns wie ein Blitz übergesprungen und hat den ganzen Raum elektrisiert. Letztes Jahr war es auch so, und wir hoffen, dass wir das hier bald wiederholen können!

Gestern Abend war Munich… oder heißt es „München“? Ich kriege das nie richtig hin! Ich glaube, ich habe das auf der Bühne drei Mal unterschiedlich ausgesprochen und hoffe, die Fans verzeihen mir 🙂 Der Club hatte eine Rundum-Terrasse mit Palmen, Ranken und allen möglichen Pflanzen. Das schien mir ein ziemlich cooler Ort zum Rumhängen im Sommer zu sein. Leider hat es den ganzen Abend ziemlich stark geregnet und wir konnten das Grün nicht genießen… Der Club war wieder voll, aber diesmal hat es nur draußen geregnet ;-). Unser Meet & Greet am Ende hat total Spaß gemacht. Ein paar Fans sind sogar aus Spanien angereist, weil sie es zu keinem der spanischen Termine geschafft haben! Ich schätze ich immer glücklich, solche engagierten Fans zu haben, die uns so unterstützen 🙂

Heute waren wir für unsere einzige österreichische Show in Graz. Letztes Mal haben uns die Fans in Wien umgehauen, und heute stand das Publikum in Graz dem in nichts nach! Es waren reichlich Pommesgabeln in der Luft und Stimmen erhoben sich mit uns bei den „Woahs“ und „Heys“ 🙂 Ich hoffe, wir haben auch ein paar neue Fans dazugewonnen!

Noch zwei Shows, dann haben wir einen Tag frei für die Weiterreise. Ich freue mich schon drauf, einen freien Abend zum Filmschauen auf dem Laptop und zum Zelda-Spielen auf meinem Nintendo Switch zu haben. Wir werden an der Südküste Frankreichs entlangfahren und finden hoffentlich auch irgendwo einen Strand! Durch den freien Abend kann ich auch tatsächlich mal was trinken und lange aufbleiben. Wir werden also sehen, welche Stories sich daraus ergeben 😉

What day is it? Monday? Maybe… I am starting to forget 😉 There are no more weekdays only cities and venues, new faces, new fans. This is the part where the routine really starts to kick in! Wake up in the bus outside a new venue, step outside to wind, rain, sunshine, who knows! Orient yourself; find the food wherever it may be… Shower, warm up, set up your gear, sound check, wait impatiently to hit the stage while the crowd grows louder and more anxious and then, finally, the “apex” of the whole affair! A fleeting thirty-five minutes on stage of pure exhilaration and joy 🙂 Then of course the winding down, the drinking, the laughing, the re-loading of gear (yuck), until once again, exhausted, your head hits the pillow and the motion of the bus lulls you to sleep…

There have been five shows since I left you last, it has been very busy and time flies so fast I am sorry I have not had time to write! I will touch briefly on each, if that can be done 😉

Copenhagen was awesome, such a tight little venue, such a fantastic crowd! I actually had time to walk around the city with Scott and see a bit of the sights, which is rare on tours with such long drives. We revisited our favourite store from when we recorded our last album in Denmark, called Fotex, which always had everything we needed, and once again it satisfied our desires 😉 Scott picked up about 15 boxes of Gajoles (salted black licorice candies) to take back home as we have nothing like them in Canada hahaha!

Next we were back in Germany at Hellraiser in Leipzig. The venue was covered in posters of past bands that had played there and it was like walking through the hallways of the heavy metal gods… Amon Amarth, UDO, Edguy, Nightwish, Behemoth… What a feeling to play the same stage as these legends! The show was once again packed, and the crowd was exuberant in their ‘heys’ and was quick to put their fists in the air. So many smiling faces! Our meet and greet at the end was cut short by the security unfortunately 🙂 For those that did not get their chance to say hello I promise we will be back!

Then, we were in Prague, a city we have played before, playing the same venue as last year, Nova Chmnelnice, except unlike last year it was sold out. What a difference indeed! I am not sure if you have every witnessed it raining inside, but we have… The room was so packed with bodies the air became heavy with condensation, and soon it was dripping from the ceiling and ductwork as though a raincloud had snuck in through the window. Poor Manu (drums for Rhapsody Of Fire) was sharing his drums with all of the bands that night and looked on anxiously as his kit literally began to fill up with water… It dripped down the sides of his brand new Mapex shells as though they were sitting under a waterfall. Despite all that, the show was incredible. Such an enthusiastic crowd! The energy passed between us and them like lightning and electrified the room. It was the same last year, and we hope to be back soon so we can do it all again!

Last night was Munich… Or is it München? I can never get it right! I think I said it three different ways on stage, I hope the fans will forgive me 🙂 The venue had a patio all around it filled with palm trees and vines and all types of foliage; I was thinking it would be a pretty cool place to hang out in the summer! Unfortunately it was raining quite hard the whole night so we could not enjoy the greenery… Once again the venue was packed {although the rain remained outside only this time 😉 } and our meet and greet and the end was lot’s of fun. Had some fans come all the way from Spain because they could not make any of the Spanish dates! It always makes me feel so lucky to have such dedicated and supportive fans 🙂

Tonight we were in Graz for our one and only Austrian show. Last time the fans in Vienna blew us away; and tonight the crowd in Graz did not disappoint! There were a lot of horns in the air, and voices raised with us during the woahs and heys 🙂 I hope we may have won over some new fans as well!

Two more shows and then we have a day off to travel. I am looking forward to a night off to watch some movies on my laptop and play Zelda on my Nintendo Switch. We will be travelling along the southern coast of France so hopefully we can find a beach along the way as well! The day off will allow me one night to actually have a few drinks and stay up late so we’ll have to see what stories that will bring 😉
